DO Project has partnered up with Dean Gera Salons to raise funds for haircuts for the street children in Cambodia.
These monthly sessions, where more than 300 kids get their hair cut, are organised by Le Restaurant des Enfants (LRDE), the kitchen that feeds and cares for these children daily; and Caritas Cambodia, an NGO that trains deaf students to become hairdressers. The result here is a typical win-win situation as the students get their training, while the children get their haircuts.
The cost of this service is 80$ per month, and the aim of the HAIR-DO event was to collect 960$ so LRDE would be able to continue this project for another year.
We take going to a hairdresser’s every six weeks or so for granted, while for these kids it’s sometimes a basic matter of hygiene. It is also, hopefully, a way for them to learn to take care of themselves while also helping to boost their self-confidence with a rocking ‘HAIR-DO’ (pun intended!)
And so, on Sunday March 19, Dean Gera Salon kindly offered stylings, blow-dries, and men’s haircuts to patrons against a donation of €5 towards the cause. We are proud to say that collected 1382.72€ throughout the day, and the funds will go towards the haircuts project.
We would like to thank Dean Gera Salons management and stylists who generously gave up their Sunday to work tirelessly to support this cause; and of course heartfelt thanks also go to the people who turned up for a cut or blow-dry to and donated so generously to make this event a massive success.
